Statistics is computationally intensive. Routine statistical tasks such as data
extraction, graphical summary, and technical interpretation all require pervasive use
of modern computing machinery. Obviously, these tasks can benefit greatly from a
parallel computing environment where extensive calculations can be performed
simultaneously.
